Small Grant Awarded to Camp Cavell
CAMP CAVELL, Lexington, Michigan, is an opportunity to “CARE . CONNECT . PROTECT”.
The Camp “was created in 1927 on the shores of Lake Huron on 30 acres of pristine land. Today it covers 55 acres of land with 180 0 feet of shoreline. Generations of children have discovered nature and created friendships there.”
The Camp is “a testament to the enduring power of community dedication, the unwavering belief in the transformative potential of nature and connection.” Would you like to volunteer? Visit the Camp website: www.campcavell.org.
Several years ago, Sr. Veronica and Sr. Concepcion were invited by the Director of the Camp to create a labyrinth in a perfect spot near the entrance of the Camp. It has been used by children and adults ever since.
In 2018, thanks to funding by the United States Region, the community in Port Huron was able to create a fund, Bioregion Reparation Fund, through St. Clair County Community Foundation. The purpose of the Fund is to help repair damage done within the bioregions of Lake Huron and the Black and St. Clair Rivers, as well as to provide education about sustainable living within a planet suffering from Climate Change. Thanks to good management and approval by the Foundation we were recently able to award a small grant of $2,000 to Camp Cavell. That grant is in addition to larger grants also awarded for the purpose of giving the Camp funding for creation of permanent recycling, and composting materials in addition to a related education program. For more information about the Bioregion Reparation Fund go to www.fullcircleretreat.org.
