Summer Beauty

Summer BeautyNever lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God’s handwriting – a wayside sacrament. Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing…

Ralph W. Emerson

In this part of the United States these months of summertime bring us a different face of beauty every day. Summer is often the time that families gather for reunions, picnics, weddings or anniversary celebrations and the beauty of those we know and love is easy to behold.

Flowers are a special beauty of summer. Whether it is the garden variety in our own backyards or exquisite, exceptional flowers tended and cared for by master gardeners they bring us beauty in abundance with their variety of colors, scents and shapes!

The days are longer and temperatures warm enough to allow us to be outdoors so we may have the opportunity to watch the sun set and gaze on the Divine Artist painting the sky with color beyond telling.

For me the beauty of different birds and ducks is a special delight. From the tiny hummingbirds to the majestic eagle there is an enriching  diversity with so many colors and so much variety!

For some persons summertime gives an opportunity to spend time near a lake, a river or even one of the oceans! We humans have developed so many activities to do in the water from fishing to kayaking. While other persons seek a quiet spot and ponder the immensity, the depth, the color and beauty of the water itself.

Simone Weil has told us: “The beautiful is something upon which we can focus our attention. In everything that gives us the pure authentic feeling of beauty there is really the presence of God.” May these days give you time to ponder the graciousness of our Creator God.
