SMR International Visit and Jubilee

Surely the month of January brought those of us who live in Michigan record breaking amounts of snow on the ground and the temperatures were among the coldest we can remember.

While the days of 2014 are moving along quickly we want to share with our readers a couple of high-lights from our 2013 experiences.

The first is that in the spring of 2013 our long time SMR associate, Fran Pignatelli, from New Jersey, traveled with her two nieces, Maureen and Christine Dingivan, to Belgium and France. The trip was planned so that they would be able to visit some places that were significant in the early days of SMR. Fran had a great desire to visit these places because she knew that Emilie d’Oultremont d’Hooghvorst, our foundress, was born in Belgium and the first community of SMR began in Strasbourg, France.

StrasbourgWe share with you from their visit a photo of the four sisters living in Strasbourg. They are: (left to right) Monique Mervelay, Therese Lorda, Fran, Noelle Roques and Frances Nakintu.

Another joyful event for the Sisters of United States this past year was the opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of vows of Sister Martha de la Torre of Mexico. Martha is currently living in Riverview and studying at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. Martha has been in United States since October 2009. December 8th marked her anniversary but she chose to celebrate the event in November when many sisters of United States were able to celebrate with her.
