Good News about Oceans

The Ocean Conservancy, www.oceanconservany.org, mission is to seek “to protect the ocean from today’s global challenges” while creating “science-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it.”

In early January 2021, The Conservancy celebrated “some of the biggest ocean wins of 2020.” Among them are:

Save Our Seas Act 2.0 which established “ocean plastic pollution as a policy priority for the United States government.” This act will help “the United States to become an international leader in plastic pollution reduction and prevention.”

The Ocean Policy Committee is “a White House body that coordinates ocean science and management”. It will “advance ocean management and policies that support a healthy ocean for all.”

With the passage of the Climate-Ready Fisheries Act will help ensure “the sustainability of our nation’s fisheries.” It “will help policymakers identify how we can enhance our nation’s science and management systems to better address climate impacts.
